Doina Precup
I currently share my time between the School of Computer Science at McGill University and Mila, where I co-direct the Reasoning & Learning Lab, and DeepMind, where I am a principal scientist and research lead for the Montreal team.
My research is in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, with a special focus on reinforcement learning. I am especially interested in understanding how to use reinforcement leanring in order to build general-purpose AI agents, who can learn the right level of abstraction to represent and reason about their environment. I am also interested in applications of AI and machine learning in practice, with a focus on medicine.
I also want to do my part to ensure that AI is developed in an equitable and inclusive way. For this purpose, I have co-founded the AI4Good lab, which aims to improve the participation of women in machine learning, as well as the Eastern European Machine Learning Summer School (EEML), which aims to popularise machine learning more broadly in Eastern Europe, and to encourage cutting-edge research in this field.
